Tarvisio is not a giant ski area, and that is precisely its merit: twenty-four kilometres of downhill pistes, ten lifts, and above all fifty-five kilometres of cross-country tracks, which is a cross-country capital’s worth, not a mountain village’s.
The descents drop from Monte Lussari towards the valley floor. The piste that closes the area on the village side is called Priesnig and runs across a sunny bowl ringed by mountains, with the Mangart in front of it.
If you come for cross-country skiing, this is the right place and almost nobody knows it: fifty-five kilometres of tracks against twenty-four of downhill. The famous Alpine resorts have that ratio the other way round.
There is one thing that makes us smile every time we tell it: our house is on via Priesnig. The street is named after the piste. It is not a coincidence built for a website: here the village and the mountain are the same thing, and the streets take their names from what stands in front of them.
Anyone who skis should know one thing about the pass: the CartaNeve is not valid only in Tarvisio. It also covers Sella Nevea, Sauris and Sappada. One ski pass, different areas on different days, with nothing more to buy.
