Sella Nevea and Monte Canin
The only ski area in the Alps that crosses the border: you go up in Italy and come down in Slovenia. And it is on the same pass as Tarvisio.

- Why people goHigh altitude: snow arrives earlier and lasts longer
Sella Nevea sits much higher than Tarvisio, beneath Monte Canin, and that is why the snow arrives earlier here and leaves later. When it is spring on the valley floor, people are still skiing up here.
The real distinction, though, is another, and very few places in Europe have it: the lifts cross the border. You go up on the Italian side and come down on Bovec, in Slovenia. In the same day, on the same ticket, you ski in two countries.
Keep Sella Nevea as your reserve card. In seasons when snow is short on the valley floor, there is snow up here. Knowing you already have that option on your pass changes the holiday when winter is mean.
And for anyone staying here, one practical detail matters: Sella Nevea is inside the same CartaNeve as Tarvisio. It is not an alternative to be paid for separately: it is included. One day you ski in the village, the next you go up high, and the pass is the same.
In summer the Canin becomes something else: real high mountain terrain, with views the snow hides in winter, and on clear days you can see the Adriatic.
The road up is a mountain road, with hairpins. In winter you need snow tyres or chains on board, and that is a legal requirement, not a suggestion.
