This is the first route to do, and the one to recommend to anybody: two hours, no exposed sections, no technical passages. You walk along the shores linking the lower lake and the upper lake, inside a spruce forest with the Mangart closing the valley.
Anyone short of time does the lower lake alone: barely half an hour, and it is flat. Anyone with a morning does the full loop. And on the shore you can hire a boat.
At eight in the morning the water is still and reflects the whole of the Mangart; from ten onwards, in August, the queue of cars arrives. If you are sleeping here and get up early, you have the lake almost to yourself: it is one of the few real advantages of staying in the village rather than driving in for the day.
With a pushchair you will manage only part of the loop: less than half the route runs on a made path. With very small children, take a child carrier or stay at the lower lake.
