The Zacchi hut from the Fusine lakes
Four hundred and fifty metres of climb from the lakes, by two different routes: one anybody can walk, the other steeper. At the top, a hundred and twenty seats on a terrace.

This is the classic climb of the Tarvisio area, and it has a merit few others do: you can choose how hard to make it. From the car park at the upper Fusine lake two routes lead to the same hut.
The CAI 513 track is wide, part surfaced and part gravel, and anyone can walk it: it is the way families take, and anyone without boots. The CAI 512 path is shorter and steeper, through the undergrowth, with rock steps: that one is for walkers.
Go up by path 512 and come down by track 513. On the way up your legs handle the gradient; on the way down, after lunch, the wide track is far kinder to your knees. It is how people who go often do it.
At the top, at one thousand three hundred and eighty metres, there is a real mountain hut: twenty-two beds in three dormitories, forty seats inside and a hundred and twenty on the terrace, with the walls of the Mangart in front. And it is open in winter too, from December to Easter.
⚠️ Careful with the circuit. From the hut a loop runs towards the Porticina pass, which has exposed sections and which the Tarvisio tourist portal has listed as impassable. It is not an after-lunch stroll: ask at the hut (333 3080555) before setting off on it, or go back the way you came.

Can you reach the Zacchi hut with children?
Yes, by taking the CAI 513 track, which is wide and suitable for everybody. The CAI 512 path is steeper, with rock steps, and needs more thought.
Is the Zacchi hut open in winter?
Yes. It opens in summer from June to September and in winter from December to Easter. It has twenty-two beds and a restaurant with forty seats inside and a hundred and twenty on the terrace.
