The Fratelli Grego hut, by two opposite routes

This hut has a quirk that makes it useful to two different people. Anyone who wants to walk sets off from the Saisera valley, from the car park at the old powder magazine at nine hundred and sixty metres, four kilometres beyond Valbruna: from the Florit chapel the CAI 611 path climbs in hairpins through the woods, for five hundred and fifty metres of ascent and about four and a half hours there and back.
Anyone who does not want to, or cannot, walk drives to Sella Somdogna — eighteen kilometres of surfaced road from Dogna — and from there it is ten minutes on foot along a comfortable track. Same hut, same view, same lunch.
It is the right choice when a family contains both people who walk and people who do not: one group climbs through the woods, the other drives up from Sella Somdogna, and you all meet at the same table. Few huts allow that.
In winter the climb from the Florit chapel becomes one of the most popular snowshoe routes in the area: ten kilometres, five hundred metres of climb, medium difficulty. And from the hut you can go on towards Sella Somdogna, past the frozen tarn.
In winter the road to Sella Somdogna may not be passable: the comfortable route is for the warm season. The snowshoe route needs proper snowshoes and poles, not just boots.
