A flat kilometre, the only one you can do with a pushchair

The Gnomes' Path, for the youngest

A flat kilometre along a stream, with signs telling the habits of the forest gnomes. It is the only route in this guide you can genuinely do with a pushchair.

Throughout this guide, routes described as «family friendly» always come with an asterisk: almost none can be done with a pushchair. This one can. It is a kilometre long, it is flat, and it takes about an hour with the stops children need.

It starts from car park P3, behind the Hotel Edelhof, and drops towards Tarvisio Basso alongside the Bartolo stream as far as the Duca d'Aosta ski fields. Along the way there are signs telling the habits and legends of the forest gnomes: they are the reason children walk without asking how much further it is.

Advice from someone who lives here

It is the first-day route, when you have just arrived and do not yet feel like getting into the car. An hour, the children tire just enough, and you are back in the village for dinner.

In German it is the Bergmännchenweg, and locally you will also find it as the «dwarves' path»: three names for the same trail, like everything here.

Know before you go

There is nothing dangerous, but it runs alongside a stream: with the smallest children the usual care around water applies.
