Tarvisio is not just any mountain village, and the reason is geographical: it stands at the one point in Europe where the Latin, Germanic and Slavic worlds touch. Not a short distance apart: in the same place. Italian, German and Slovenian are all spoken here, the surnames come from three traditions, and the cooking borrows from all three.
The market is what visitors remember most, but almost everyone arrives with the wrong information. It is not a weekly market held on a single day: it is on via Vittorio Veneto, it has more than a hundred stalls and it opens almost every day from 9.30am. Clothing, shoes, bags, leather goods.
